I have always been interested in natural history, indeed that is why I chose a career in horticulture. Now in retirement I am trying to take some photographs of wildlife, the more that you do it the more that you realise how difficult it is to achieve good results. At first you think that the equipment that you use is the most important thing, of course it is important but there are lots of other factors that you need to address.
Black-tailed godwits
Herring gull
Curlew
Robin
Coot
Tufted duck
Turnstone at Padstow harbour
Song thrush
Curlew on Camel estuary
Mallard
Great spotted-woodpecker
Blackbird
Dunnock or Hedge sparrow
I have only ever once seen a Hoopoe in England, and that was at Berry Head, Devon in April 2011. But although I had my camera with me I was unable to get close enough for a photograph.Fly agaric toadstool, these are apt to appear under the beech trees on our drive in the autumn |
A year later a Hoopoe turned up in the Truro area, and my friend Simon Wilcox managed to get some stunning photos of it, I am pleased to include one here with thanks to Simon. |
